From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Audiences can expect learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
